Book Club Order Due Date: January 11
Scholastic Book Clubs Ordering Information: www.scholastic.com/bookclubs
Class Activation Code: email me if you need it
Dear Families,
I have handed out more Scholastic Book Clubs flyers for you to explore with your child. Once you've decided which books to purchase, you can order online. It saves time, offers more book choices, and earns extra rewards for the classroom.
To start ordering online, follow these simple steps:
1. Register at Scholastic Book Clubs' secure Web site www.scholastic.com/bookclubs), and create your own User Name and Password.
2. Enter the onetime Class Activation Code above to link you to our classroom.
3. Choose the books that you would like to order.
4. Pay for your selections using your credit card.
5. Submit your order to me online.
Scholastic will take care of the rest, and ordering online means there is no minimum $ amount needed for free shipping. (Otherwise they require a $15 minimum order.)
As always, I encourage the students to use these book orders for ideas when visiting the library. You can order books from their web site at http://www.kcls.org/
Thank you,
Jeff

Party Reminder
We’re saying goodbye to 2011 with a breakfast and a read-in!
(I hope. That is, we will do so if it works for everyone. Please let me know if you’re able to contribute something on the list. If not, we’ll try for another time. So far, we have no donations.)
We need:
· paper plates
· napkins
· plastic silverware
· toasters
· white bread
· food coloring
· cut fruit
· sausages (either cooked at home and reheated here or cooked here in electric skillets)
· something to spread on the bread like butter or jam (no peanuts please)
· juice or milk
· drinking cups
· small cups for food coloring
· Q-tips for painting
We have 21 students.
Please contact Kody’s mom or Gracie’s mom if you can provide anything to help.
We want to start with this on Wednesday, December 21st. Then we will have a read-in for the rest of the day. Please join us if you can. Students may bring in things like blankets pillows and stuffed animals to make them more comfortable.
Thanks.
Jeff

Newsletter 8 12/16/2011
Dear Families,
What a BUSY time it has been. But it’s been fun. The days are flying by. Our last day of 2011 will be on Wednesday, December 21. We come back on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
Concert
Our concert for 3, 4, and 5 will be tonight, Thursday, December 15 at 6:30pm. Please drop off the students in my classroom between 6:20 and 6:30; and the whole class will walk down together. Many people often get here earlier than that for seats and parking (and just walk the students up to the classroom at 6:20), since the place will be packed.
After the show, teachers take students back to the classroom, and families pick them up there. (My daughter has a basketball game tonight too, so I’ll need to leave ASAP after the show, so I can go watch her.)
Math
The current unit teaches/reviews (among other things) rounding and money. I’ve talked about how these are two skills they will use forever. It would be helpful if you pointed out at home some ways they could use these skills, and especially helpful if there are some coins they can practice counting.
Celebration
We’ll have our year-end celebration on Wednesday, December 21st. The plan is to have breakfast together in the classroom, followed by a read-in for the rest of the day. Please join us if you can. Students may bring in stuff like blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals to make them more comfortable.
For the breakfast, we’ll need families to contribute supplies. We’d like to have toast decorated with food coloring, sausages, fruit, and something to drink. Kerrie Moore (Kody’s mom) and Jen Leatham (Gracie’s mom) have volunteered to coordinate supplies. Please contact one of them if you can provide anything to help. We’ll need plates, napkins, plastic silverware, toasters, white bread, food coloring, cut fruit, sausages (either cooked at home and reheated here, or cooked here in electric skillets), something to spread on the bread like butter or jam (no peanuts, please).

P.S. The show last night was just great. I think that was the best I’ve seen them do it. Thanks for much for all your support of their hard work to make it happen.

Dear Families,
THANK YOU for coming to conferences. I truly appreciated the chance to meet with you. I hope you found it worthwhile. As we move into December, our days will be busy.
Math
I’m trying to send home completed math sheets as I’m finished with them, or copies if I need to save the originals. The only ones I can’t send until the end of the year are the Power Standards tests I showed you at conference. If students bring home work to finish, they should know what to do and why. If they need help, feel free. If they are confused, they should do their best and then ask me the next day.
If you have any questions about the math that comes home, please ask your child. I hope they know what we’re doing and why. If not, I’m happy to explain.
Book Orders
Now that the Book Fair is done, I’ll start sending book orders again. If you’re ordering something for a present and want me to keep it a secret, just let me know.
Reading
Books make great Christmas presents. So do magazine subscriptions. I urge you to continue reading aloud to your children. This tends to diminish in families as the kids reach third grade and beyond, but the benefits remain huge, more than I can explain here.
Celebration
We’ll have our year-end celebration on Wednesday, December 21st. I’ll give you more details soon. Thank you to those who have offered to help.

Newsletter 6/Reminder
Newsletter 6 11/16/2011
Dear Families,
Just a reminder: We’ll have half days from now until Thanksgiving. I have conference times scheduled for everyone. Most people brought their slips back. Let me know if you need a reminder of your time.
I plan for the conferences to last about 20 minutes. I need to make sure we’re on time (not always easy for me J) because the families with more than one child here will have them back to back. If we need more time to talk, I’m happy to continue at a later time.
Please remember to bring the students with you. It’s their chance to celebrate progress with us. I’m looking forward to it.
