Dear Families,

 

What a BUSY time it has been. But it’s been fun. The days are flying by. Our last day of 2011 will be on Wednesday, December 21. We come back on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

Concert

Our concert for 3, 4, and 5 will be tonight, Thursday, December 15 at 6:30pm. Please drop off the students in my classroom between 6:20 and 6:30; and the whole class will walk down together. Many people often get here earlier than that for seats and parking (and just walk the students up to the classroom at 6:20), since the place will be packed.

After the show, teachers take students back to the classroom, and families pick them up there. (My daughter has a basketball game tonight too, so I’ll need to leave ASAP after the show, so I can go watch her.)

Math

The current unit teaches/reviews (among other things) rounding and money. I’ve talked about how these are two skills they will use forever. It would be helpful if you pointed out at home some ways they could use these skills, and especially helpful if there are some coins they can practice counting.

Celebration

We’ll have our year-end celebration on Wednesday, December 21^st. The plan is to have breakfast together in the classroom, followed by a read-in for the rest of the day. Please join us if you can. Students may bring in stuff like blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals to make them more comfortable.

For the breakfast, we’ll need families to contribute supplies. We’d like to have toast decorated with food coloring, sausages, fruit, and something to drink. Kerrie Moore (Kody’s mom) and Jen Leatham (Gracie’s mom) have volunteered to coordinate supplies. Please contact one of them if you can provide anything to help. We’ll need plates, napkins, plastic silverware, toasters, white bread, food coloring, cut fruit, sausages (either cooked at home and reheated here, or cooked here in electric skillets), something to spread on the bread like butter or jam (no peanuts, please).

Individual Achievement (I.A.) Pullout Program Testing

Our District: News The deadline for returning recommendations for screening for all students K-4 will be January 20, 2012. The Highly Capable testing occurs only once a year, and is free of charge to all students. If you know of any student who may benefit from these program services, please feel free to recommend them, or notify parents of this opportunity for their child.
