Newsletter 6 2013-2014 11/26/2013
Dear Families,
Thank you to everyone for coming to conferences. We had 100% attendance this year. I can't recall the last time that happened.
To recap a few things:
¨ Kids should be reading easy books. That means 97-100% accuracy.
¨ We'd like all students to have math facts memorized by the end of the year. For 2nd grade that's all addition facts up to 10+10, and the related subtraction facts. For 3rd
grade, it's all those addition and subtraction facts, plus all the
multiplication and division facts. Five to ten minutes practice per day
is better than longer periods only one or two days per week (or month).
¨ Homework pages come home every day. We're asking no more than 20 minutes. Feel free to use part of that time for fact practice.
¨ If you need help with Khan Academy or Typing Agent, please let me know.
¨ It is not necessary to have a Twitter account in order to read our tweets. Just go to https://twitter.com/room302.
RAZ Kids
This is an online reading program, and has been paid for once again by our PTA. Thank you.
To access the site, go to www.raz-kids.com/login/jkurtzk. After
students find their names, they can choose between "Your Assignment" or
"On Your Own—Bookroom". The first choice is where students start with
the easiest books and work up. The Bookroom lets students explore and
read any book they want. Books are available in English and Spanish. As
always, students should make sure they are always reading books that are
easy for them. Third grade will be reading and taking their state tests
online, so extra online practice cannot hurt.
