Dear Families,

My thank-you card skills are a work in progress. Let that in no way indicate how grateful I am for all I received. Thank you so much for your generosity. I appreciate it. I hope everyone enjoyed the time off.

Valentines

We'll spend the next few weeks writing valentine cards for each other. We're drafting free verse poems to express our sentiments. On Monday, February 14 we will exchange our cards and celebrate not only the day, but all the effort and the writing.

This means there is no need to buy pre-made valentines, but if anyone wants to use that same money to get some decorations we can use (stickers, doilies, hearts, etc.) we'd love it.

I've attached a list, in case any students want to work away from school. If anyone wants to send in a snack or treat for the exchange, we'd

Math

I'll continue to send home copies of some of the work we're doing. If you have a chance to discuss it with your child, it would help. I'm also attaching a math article written for  The Seattle Times by a friend of mine. Many of the students do not yet have addition/subtraction facts memorized, and we're soon moving to multiplication and division, so for those of you working on math at home, I'm hoping the article helps.

Rocking Chairs

Wow. All three rocking chairs have been fixed—thanks to Shelby's family and Ben's family. We several offers, and thanks for those, too. I appreciate the support.

Calendar

If anyone has an extra desk-size calendar for the new year, we'd love to have it. It's a great and quick way to keep track of all that is happening (as well as review those calendar skills).

Dictionaries

The local LIONS club visited recently and gave all third graders dictionaries. The excitement in the room was amazing, as was the gift itself. Look for a photo on Twitter.
